ADVANCING BRAIN SCIENCE THROUGH SPORT & GIVING

Join us in building community to support cutting-edge research and recovery from brain injuries.

Launching the Mind in Motion Series
Coming to Telluride, Colorado January 4-6, 2026

Mind in Motion Workshop for Women who rip

“Confidence from Competence”

Sponsored by the RW Horizon Fund in partnership with Telluride Science

The Mind in Motion is an invitation-only initiative that brings together high-level female collegiate skiers to create meaningful community through shared experiences on the mountain, coupled with classroom exploration of performance optimization through a better understanding of brain science.  This workshop will offer tools for translation of a performance mindset from athletics to professional and academic leadership, while fostering inclusive, supportive spaces for growth.

The Willett Cup Invitational Golf Tournament, in honor of Rick Willett’s passion for mentoring and competitive sports, has demonstrated the power of strong community connections for athletes transitioning from sport to profession. The event brings together top junior, collegiate, amateur, and professional players from across New England to compete as mixed foursomes, building both competition and camaraderie. After two events in Massachusetts almost $60,000 has been raised for the Discovery Center at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and the US Challenge Cup Jr Golf Foundation.

Building on this success, the RW Horizon Fund, a newly founded 501c3, is launching a pilot program to foster a similar community for female collegiate skiers. This workshop will provide mentorship, leadership development, and opportunities for lasting connections. In the future, the model can be adapted for other affinity groups. The long-term vision may also include an organized ski event, with fundraising efforts dedicated to advancing Brain Science.

This two-day program in Telluride (at no cost to the participants) will combine time on the mountain with sessions at the Telluride Science and Innovation Center. Female leaders who have built careers on the foundation of sport will join participants on the hill, creating space for meaningful chairlift conversations and shared experiences. Classroom sessions will be guided by expert consultants, while community business leaders will be invited to engage during lunches and dinners. Additional opportunities may include virtual panels and conversations to expand access and perspective.

Workshop Goals

  • Create community among high-performing student ATHLETES through shared experience and open dialogue.

  • Develop confidence from competence translated from sport to profession.

  • Explore how brain science influences a chosen style of leadership, motivation, and emotional regulation.

Rick's Story

Rick left us too soon in July 2022. He still had peaks to ski, competitive golf to watch, coaching to do, and sunsets to chase. Many don’t know that 17 years earlier, Rick survived a ski accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury (TBI). This experience fueled his 'work hard... play hard' attitude. Rick believed in 'doing well to do good,' with a passion to live life to its fullest, and give back.

With deep gratitude for the extra time we had with him, we are determined to keep his spirit alive through the clear philanthropic vision he created. The Willett Cup will honor Rick’s passion for competitive golf and his commitment to advancing brain science and improving TBI treatment. We continue his legacy by supporting brain injury research and patient care.
